World Youth Movement for Democracy Day – 18 Ocober 2012

Claim the Future

“Commit yourself to the noble struggle for human rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country and a finer world to live in.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today Zimbabwe joins hands with the rest of the world to commemorate World Youth Movement for Democracy Day. This year the theme is ‘Claim the Future’. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the positive contributions youth are making to promote democracy around the world and to mobilise youth to participate in democracy-building. The youth of Zimbabwe are yet to realise the potential that lies dormant in them. We are yet to understand the strength we have if we decide to work together, and speak with one voice. The fragmentation that has been prevalent over the past few decades has done more damage than good.  Today, young Zimbabweans should take a step back to reflect and take stock of our actual role. We are tomorrow and the limited economic opportunities, unemployment, declining education opportunities and marginalization should not be an excuse to do nothing. We are the owners of our tomorrow and should rightfully shape our own country and not become victims of circumstance.

Let us join together and Claim Our Future!
